The state government characterized the incident as painful, sad, and shocking.
The incident happened during a routine traffic infraction at the Alakia area, Old Ife Road, Ibadan, according to a statement released by Dr. Suleimon Olanrewaju, the Special Adviser on Media to the Governor.
In order to look into the situation and make sure justice was done, the state government pledged to cooperate with the Oyo State Police Command.
The incident was completely preventable, according to the government.
It claims that an innocent life was lost as a result of what began as a traffic infraction committed by the father of the deceased boy who was driving against the flow of traffic.
It cautioned citizens against disobeying traffic laws and asked them to maintain their composure while the government and police handled the matter.
The state government refuted the assertion that the incident happened while police were pursuing a suspected online scammer.
It made clear that the incident really happened while Oyo State Road Traffic Maintenance Authority (OYRTMA) men were conducting a routine operation to check for traffic violations.

The statement claims that after receiving complaints about certain drivers driving against the flow of traffic, OYRTMA officials and a police team launched a traffic operation at Alakia, Old Ife Road.

It stated that a police officer allegedly shot one of the car’s tires in an effort to capture the traffic violator, but the bullet missed its mark and killed the boy.
