Nancy Mace shows ‘naked’ photos, in push to tighten sexual misconduct laws South Carolina, pulled out a hazy, black and white picture of what she claimed was her “naked silhouette” before a House hearing May 20.


 

The picture, Mace said, was a snapshot from a film made without her knowledge on a “secret camera” by her ex-fiancé Patrick Bryant.

 

“I didn’t select this battle. I don’t even want to be here today and address this,” Mace said in her opening words as head of a House Oversight and Government Reform subcommittee.

Bryant is one of four individuals Mace accused of sexual misconduct, including raping herself and several women, during a detailed House floor statement in February. Outside her congressional office, Mace displays a sign with each regarding their images, names and towns of residence, wedged between the words “PREDATORS” and “STAY AWAY FROM

Mace has subsequently been sued for defamation by one of the men she implicated in that speech. In exchange, she initiated a lawsuit of her own against another, stating he had “repeatedly and maliciously defamed” her on social media.

A lawyer with the federal attorney’s office in South Carolina told a court earlier this month that he would be illustrating Mace in the first suit, which suggests she is likely to employ a defense arguing that what she said were protected under congressional privilege, a legal shield that protects free speech in the House and Senate.

Mace closed her speech before the panel on Tuesday by shrugging off the legal threats against her, declaring: “Bring it on, brother, because there is no defamation in the truth. And if you’re going to be the type of fool and monster who sues his own victims, may God help you.”
